The Clarence Valley is known for many things its natural beauty, its history, and above all, its heart. And this month, that heart is being called on more than ever.
Just weeks ago, tragedy struck when five local children were left orphaned after the sudden passing of their mother. Overnight, a relative expecting a quiet household of four found herself facing a life with eight children and another baby on the way.
This is where the Clarence Valley shines.
To help the family get through Christmas and the tough months ahead, locals Shannon and Campbell have joined forces with Loving Life FM to launch Clarence Valley Cares, a community-driven support effort.
A FAMILY IN NEED A COMMUNITY IN ACTION
The situation is heartbreaking, but far from hopeless. As Shannon explains:
“We’re not asking people to dig deep we’re asking people to spread the load.”
With paperwork and formal assistance still in progress, the family urgently needs help covering the costs of Christmas, back-to-school essentials, and basic necessities like shoes, linen, towels, socks, toiletries, and school bags.
But instead of physical donations that may overwhelm the home, the community is being asked to give vouchers.
“Vouchers make it easier,” Shannon says. “It allows the family to get exactly what they need, when they need it.”
THE VOUCHER TREE AT LOVING LIFE FM
In the studio at Loving Life 103.1 FM, a simple but meaningful symbol is taking shape:
The Voucher Tree.
Once a humble family Christmas tree, it now stands ready to be “decorated” with vouchers from the public each one helping lighten the load for the children and their carers.
HOW TO HELP
Drop a voucher (any store, any amount) into Loving Life FM at:
91 Fitzroy Street
Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm
Every voucher will go directly to the family before Christmas.
“A little drop in the bucket can fill the bucket—every small bit counts.”
— Campbell
A QR code will also be displayed for those who wish to contribute to the GoFundMe campaign, and the link is available on the Clarence Valley Cares Facebook page.
